Human papillomavirus (HPV)
This virus is sexually transmitted and affects both men and women. It usually causes no symptoms and goes away on its own. But in some cases, it can cause cervical cancer in women. Cervical cancer is cancer of the cervix and is the second leading cause of cancer deathinwomen worldwide.
An estimated 20 million Americans are currently infected with HPV, and approximately 6 million more become infected each year. HPV is usually transmitted through sexual contact.
Papilloma vaccines
There are now two HPV vaccines on the market , Gardasil and Cervarix.
In Spain, the HPV vaccine was approved for marketing in September 2007, and the aim is to urge the autonomous communities to include it in the national health system's vaccination schedule.
But the truth is that the actual effectiveness of these vaccines is unknown and is generating quite a bit of controversy.
Recent research warns of the adverse effects of papilloma vaccines
The European Journal of Neurology has discovered new ailments that can be caused by the Gardasil brand papilloma vaccine, specifically postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), which consists of a malfunction of the autonomic nervous system, that is, a condition of dysautonomia.
Apart from this disorder, the papilloma vaccine can also cause uveitis, which is inflammation of the uvea, a layer located in the eyes, resulting in decreased visual acuity with progressive pain.
The problem arises because these adverse reactions are not reflected in the vaccine's technical data sheet, which is why the European Medicines Agency should update the information on it so that the population is aware of them.
In France and Spain, legal action is being prepared against the papilloma vaccine.
The French press reports that the Regional Commission for Medical Accident Compensation in Aquitaine (France) has recognized the causal link between the HPV vaccine and damage to the immune system of a 15-year-old girl. It appears that this girl is going to sue the laboratory and the French Medicines Agency. And more lawsuits are in the pipeline in France.
In Spain, certain law firms report that they will also file lawsuits.
In Spain, there is an association for women affected by the HPV vaccine.
All information about this Association can be found on the AAVP website: asociacion.aavp.es/, where you will also find the latest scientific discoveries on the subject.
