What is Candidiasis in pregnancy?
Candidiasis in pregnancy is a common pathology because the gestational state favors the growth of the fungus candida albicans; during this period estrogen levels are elevated; in addition to the ovaries, the placenta produces these hormones causing one of the risk factors for Candidiasis. In addition, those who are taking contraceptives with estrogens and other hormonal therapies of these characteristics, may see their estrogen levels elevated and therefore, suffer Candidiasis.
As it grows, the candida fungus adheres to the walls of the vagina and needs to be treated to avoid uncomfortable symptoms in the mother and transmission to the baby at birth.
During the gestation period, Candidiasis does not affect the fetus as the fungus is not transmitted through the umbilical cord. The risk is in the birth canal since, during birth, the baby can come into contact with Candida and become infected orally and even on the skin. Therefore, it is important to take care of your diet and follow a natural treatment during pregnancy to control the growth of candida.
