Candidiasis in pregnancy

Medical center of reference for the diagnosis and treatment of Candidiasis.

What is Candidiasis in pregnancy?

Candidiasis in pregnancy is a common pathology because the gestational state favors the growth of the fungus candida albicans; during this period estrogen levels are elevated; in addition to the ovaries, the placenta produces these hormones causing one of the risk factors for Candidiasis. In addition, those who are taking contraceptives with estrogens and other hormonal therapies of these characteristics, may see their estrogen levels elevated and therefore, suffer Candidiasis.
As it grows, the candida fungus adheres to the walls of the vagina and needs to be treated to avoid uncomfortable symptoms in the mother and transmission to the baby at birth.
During the gestation period, Candidiasis does not affect the fetus as the fungus is not transmitted through the umbilical cord. The risk is in the birth canal since, during birth, the baby can come into contact with Candida and become infected orally and even on the skin. Therefore, it is important to take care of your diet and follow a natural treatment during pregnancy to control the growth of candida.

Causes and risks of Candidiasis in pregnancy

During pregnancy, Candidiasis is directly related to an elevated level of estriol, the type of estrogen secreted by women during pregnancy, which can increase up to 1,000 times its normal volume, especially in the last three months of pregnancy.
This type of estrogen increases its volume to promote the growth of the uterus as well as to prepare the birth canal. Nevertheless, this growth is related to Candidiasis and even to the risk of breast cancer in later generations.
As mentioned above, the baby can be infected at the time of delivery and contract the disease. This contagion entails a new risk for the mother during breastfeeding: if the baby has thrush, or oral candidiasis, the fungus can pass to the mother's nipple and cause great pain. You can prevent this infection by thoroughly cleaning and drying the nipples after breastfeeding.

Symptoms of Candidiasis in Pregnancy

A pregnant woman may be affected by Candidiasis, which may be intestinal or vaginal. Candida growth in the vagina during pregnancy is common because of the increased estrogen level. One of the symptoms is a change in the vaginal discharge which becomes whiter and more abundant. Itching and stinging are also characteristic consequences of Candidiasis that become especially bothersome during pregnancy.
Candidiasis during pregnancy can also be intestinal, when Candida yeast overgrowth occurs in the intestines and can cause fatigue, gas and digestive problems. In the case of vaginal Candidiasis, the main symptoms are itching, stinging and/or vaginal pain.

Treatment of Candidiasis in pregnancy

01

Especially during pregnancy it is necessary a natural treatment such as those we propose from biological medicine. Always personalized, we design a protocol with non-invasive therapies with which we will act in a double sense: eliminating the factors that favor the growth of candida and recovering the balance of the organism.

02

The therapy we use will depend on the symptoms and location of the infection. For this, there are natural antifungals, such as a specific diet that eliminates the foods that fungi need to maintain themselves and that involves intestinal cleansing or therapies that combined can take part of the biological medicine treatment: colon hydrotherapy, ozone insufflations, focal magnetotherapy, among others.
