ADHD and obesity are closely related.

A study recently published on the website of Pediatrics, the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, has found that children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are more likely to be obese in adulthood. Specifically, it has been found that they have a higher body mass index.

ADHD and obesity are closely related.

The study, co-authored by Francisco Xavier Castellanos, professor of child and adolescent psychiatry at the Center for Child Studies at NYU Langone Medical Center, monitored 111 boys who suffered from hyperactivity as children. After reviewing them at ages 18, 25, and 41, it was found that 41% were obese, compared to only 22% of those who were not hyperactive in childhood.

This research also overlooks the fact that social status can influence whether a person is overweight. Both those with a higher social status and those with a lower social status had the same level of obesity if they had had attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Each person, a diet

At Biosalud, we are fully aware of the importance of diet and weight management, as obesity can lead to diseases such as diabetes and heart disease in adulthood. That is why we create a personalized plan for each patient, taking into account their goals and lifestyle.

Body mass index is used to calculate each person's ideal weight. The importance Biosalud places on BMI is demonstrated by the inclusion on its website of a tool that allows anyone who wishes to do so to calculate their BMI based on their weight and height and thus find out if they are overweight. At Biosalud, we help people lose weight and gain health. This means that while we put people on a diet to help them lose weight, we also work to bring their cholesterol levels and other substances that may have been affected by their excess weight back to normal.
