Ethics as a source of inspiration for all medicine

Biosalud highlights an opinion piece published today on the website medicosypacientes.com entitled "The ups and downs of medical science in the 21st century," which summarizes a paper by Dr. Juan Gérvas, Honorary Professor of Public Health at the Autonomous University of Madrid, presented in Zaragoza last month.

Ethics in medicine

In this work, Gérvas raises some very interesting and, in our opinion, accurate points about conventional medicine and alternative medicine, about the successes and failures of the former, and about the ethics that should govern both.

Gérvas reveals how conventional medicine must take scientific knowledge into account, but that there are other types of knowledge in life that are fundamental to all types of medicine, such as philosophical knowledge, intuitive knowledge, logical-mathematical-statistical knowledge, spiritual and religious knowledge, common sense, sensitivity and tenderness, solidarity, etc.

A doctor should know about alternative medicine in the same way that they should know about mythology and religions, as they are ways of understanding human beings and their variability.

As reported in this study, "one-third of the population (regardless of educational level) uses alternative medicine. In fact, its users tend to be younger and from higher social classes. This widespread use speaks volumes about the failure of conventional medicine, which has achieved enormous scientific and technical successes, but at the same time has suffered great failures in human and plural terms."

Many of Juan Gérvas' publications can be found at www.equipocesca.org and www.actasanitaria.com/category/el-mirador/.

Biosalud, an example of alternative medicine

The truth is that we strongly agree with Dr. Gervás' approach to this work. In addition to being up to date with the latest scientific and medical advances, it is extremely important to have other knowledge, let's say more human knowledge, and also knowledge about the patient, in order to treat a person's ailments.

In this regard, Biosalud, with 30 years of experience, has become the leading center for Biological and Anti-Aging Medicine, offering the most advanced studies, diagnoses, and treatments for any health-related issue.

Our goal is to continue in this way every day, keeping abreast of scientific discoveries while also attempting, through reliable and individualized questionnaires and tests, to identify our patients' health problems so that we can treat them in a humane and approachable manner and offer them the best solution.
