Lyme disease is a multi-organ infectious disease transmitted mainly by tick bites (and other vectors such as spiders, mosquitoes, or fleas) that infect the body with the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi.
The greatest danger of Lyme disease is its ability to masquerade as other conditions. It is known as the “Great Imitator” because its symptoms are often mistaken for fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and various autoimmune or neurodegenerative diseases, leading to years of misguided or incomplete treatment.
At Biosalud, we offer specialized, high-tech integrative treatments based on scientific evidence.
We believe you. We know it’s not psychological, and it may be contagious. We have the diagnostic technology to prove it, as well as the treatment protocol, expertise, and facilities to treat it.
Lyme disease can manifest itself from the first few days to weeks after infection. If the disease is detected at this stage, antibiotic treatment will usually eliminate the bacteria from the body.
Symptoms of early-stage Lyme disease include fever, chills, general malaise, headache, joint pain, and muscle stiffness.
Borrelia infection is not static; it is a progressive disease that, if left unchecked, gradually invades different systems of the body.
The flu-like symptoms that appear in the first few weeks of early-stage Lyme disease may not manifest themselves, but this does not prevent Borrelia from spreading throughout the body. In this case, the consequences are more serious.
We may suspect that we have Lyme disease if we experience weakness or paralysis of the facial muscles, heart rhythm disturbances, numbness and pain, difficulty breathing, or chest pain.
Early Stage (Localized Infection)
It manifests itself days or weeks after the bite. This is the critical moment: prompt antibiotic treatment can be curative, but time is of the essence.
The symptoms of early Lyme disease are fever, chills, general malaise, headache, joint pain, and muscle stiffness.
Borrelia infection is not static; it is a progressive disease that, if left unchecked, gradually invades different systems of the body.
We may suspect that we have Lyme disease if we experience weakness or paralysis of the facial muscles, heart rhythm disturbances, numbness and pain, difficulty breathing, or chest pain.
One of the reasons why chronic Lyme disease is difficult to detect is because it is associated with nonspecific symptoms that appear even years after contracting the disease.
This delay in the onset of symptoms means that they are not associated with the tick bite.
However, by the time symptoms appear, the disease has already affected different organs and the consequences can be irreparable:
Early Dissemination Phase (The bacteria spread)
If the bacteria are not stopped, they enter the bloodstream and lymphatic system, spreading throughout the body. Here, the symptoms become more aggressive and confusing:
Chronic Lyme Disease (Late-Stage or Persistent)
This is Biosalud's specialty. It occurs months or years after infection, often because the initial diagnosis failed or the short antibiotic treatment did not kill the bacteria hidden in biofilms. Borrelia has already colonized deep tissues (brain, joints, heart).
One of the most well-known signs of Lyme disease is erythema migrans (a target-shaped rash), but it is a mistake to wait until you see it to suspect the disease. In fact, it appears or is detected in very few cases (less than 50%). In addition, the bite is usually painless and occurs in hidden areas (scalp, back), so many people never remember being bitten.
Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne disease, and its incidence is increasing exponentially. The situation is so serious that the European Commission has alerted Member States to two critical issues:
The need for greater medical specialization.
The widespread failure of standard diagnostic tests (Social Security), which produce false negatives in 80% of chronic cases.
Consequence: With no visible signs and a negative basic test result, the patient receives no treatment and the bacteria silently progresses to the chronic phase.
When the infection spreads, it ceases to be a skin problem and becomes a multisystemic disease. If you have these symptoms and no one can find the cause, you may have Lyme disease:
Neuroborreliosis (Neurological Symptoms):
Brain Fog: Difficulty concentrating, slowed thinking, and short-term memory loss.
Sensory Disturbances: Hypersensitivity to light and noise.
Mood swings: Sudden anxiety, depression, or irritability without apparent cause (neuroinflammation).
Locomotive Affected:
Lyme arthritis: Inflammation of large joints (especially the knees).
Migratory pain: Joint or muscle pain that "moves around" from one day to the next, or even within the same day.
Extreme Fatigue: Debilitating fatigue that does not improve with rest (often diagnosed simply as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome).
One of the most well-known signs of early Lyme disease is erythema migrans (a red, target-shaped spot or rash around the bite).
Please note: The absence of this rash does NOT rule out the disease. Recent studies indicate that the rash is visible or detectable in fewer than 50% of cases. Often, the bite occurs on the scalp or in hidden areas (such as the armpits), or the rash is atypical. Do not wait to see the rash before seeking help if you have symptoms.
Lyme disease is already the most common vector-borne disease (ticks) in the Northern Hemisphere, and its incidence is growing exponentially.
The European Commission itself has issued warnings to member states, acknowledging two serious problems that leave patients vulnerable:
Since the bacteria is not detected in basic tests, the patient remains undiagnosed and untreated, allowing the infection to progress and become chronic.
We are experts in Lyme disease. We use highly specialized tests—including AI-powered microscopy and lymphocyte activity analysis—and evaluate your symptoms to identify the infection where others see only stress, anxiety, somatization, and negative test results.
Curing chronic Lyme disease is not just a matter of taking antibiotics. It is necessary to follow a strict biological order to prevent toxins from overwhelming the body (Herxheimer reaction) and to ensure that the bacteria do not return and the immune system kicks into gear.
We tailor each patient's treatment plan to their individual needs and capabilities. It is expensive due to the technology involved, but it is effective. The more comprehensive the treatment, the better the chances of success.
Our most effective and recommended treatment is structured in six phases:
Before attacking the bacteria, we must clean up the "battlefield." If the body is acidic, inflamed, and full of toxins, the immune system does not function properly.
This is a crucial stage. Our recovery rate—which is significantly higher than that of other clinics (as tracked annually by the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities)—is due, among other things, to the fact that when we treat infections, the patient’s immune system is already active; it is our ally. It’s playing on home turf.
So we attack the disease from the outside using all our specialized resources, while the patient’s immune system fights it from the inside. This is the best possible combination for defeating the disease and returning to a full life.
We treat intestinal and gum infections, restore intestinal flora and permeability, stimulate the production of deficient lymphocyte types, reduce Nagalase (which blocks lymphocytes), normalize inflammatory cytokines, address nutrient deficiencies (vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, enzymes, amino acids), regulate hormones, and treat pain.
Without energy, nothing can function. We study why mitochondria fail and reactivate them.
If we don't do all of this before starting the anti-infective treatment, it's very difficult to move on.
Over a four-week period, we combine the most effective anti-infective treatments currently available, based on the patient’s active infections and medical history.
Our medical director, Dr. Bueno, has leveraged his degree in Pharmacy to develop a new pharmaceutical formulation for the use of antibiotics—which are essential in treating Lyme disease—to eliminate side effects and enhance effectiveness, including by delivering these antibiotics into cells and crossing the blood-brain barrier (which is infested with spirochetes). Combining all of this with the other techniques we employ is the most effective way to eliminate these infections and break down the biofilms where Borrelia hides.
We continue with the specific at-home treatment regimen for this phase, and we perform a blood test 8 weeks after the start of intensive treatment to assess the response and determine whether any adjustments are needed. Depending on how things progress, a treatment session at our centers every two weeks or once a month may be necessary.
After that, we repeat the tests every 2–3 months, combined with monthly medical checkups, until the patient is fully recovered from Lyme disease.
Chronic Lyme disease sometimes leaves lasting effects. In this phase, we ensure that there are no relapses and treat the lasting effects (fatigue, residual pain).
Once we have discharged a patient with Lyme disease, we offer them a maintenance and regeneration program designed to promote optimal longevity. We provide this program at our Beyond Longevity centers, which are dedicated to health maintenance, disease prevention, and active longevity.
The goal of this phase is to prepare the body before beginning specific treatment against Borrelia, its co-infections, and reactivated viruses. Since Lyme disease is almost always a chronic, immunosuppressive conditionthat thrives in a toxic, acidic, and inflamed body,it is essential to prepare your body and improve your internal environment (the “biological terrain”) by following the precise guidelines provided by preliminary tests and our extensive experience.
If we treat the infection without first clearing the "field," we will trigger a massive toxic reaction (Herxheimer reaction), and the treatment will fail—and the patient may even get worse. Furthermore, we will create resistance, and the infections will become increasingly difficult to eliminate.
Why is this a crucial step? Our cure rate—which is well above average and monitored annually by the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities—is the result of this strategy: we turn your immune system into our ally. It is our Trojan horse.
We want your immune system to have the home-field advantage. So while we attack infections from the outside using our resources and technology, your immune system attacks them from the inside. This partnership is the only way to defeat the disease and get your life back on track.
What do we achieve at this stage? If we don't do this, it's very difficult to turn the page:
Deep cleansing: We eliminate toxins and heavy metals (here,INUSpheresis® is key to doing so thoroughly and in record time).
Restoration: We treat intestinal and gum infections, restoring intestinal flora and permeability.
Regulation: We normalize inflammatory cytokines, reduce Nagalase (unblocking defenses), and regulate the hormonal system.
Energy: Without energy, nothing works. We study why your mitochondria are failing and reactivate them so that you have strength during treatment.
Can you imagine reducing several months of debugging to just 4days?
At Biosalud Day Hospital, we have revolutionized this phase with the incorporation of INUSpheresis® (Environmental Therapeutic Apheresis). We are pioneers in Spain in this intelligent blood filtration technology. Chelation serums, glutathione, etc. are no longer necessary.
While traditional methods (cleanses, diets) take months and months to detoxify the body by 20%, INUSpheresis eliminates 60 to 80% of your toxins—and even more— all at once in just 4 days:
The Result: An almost immediate “reset” of your circulatory, lymphatic, and immune systems—and ultimately your body’s overall condition—leaving itready to receive anti-infective treatment with maximum effectiveness. And most importantly, in just 4 days.
In addition to apheresis, our preparation protocol addresses four fundamental pillars to "unlock" your healing:
We don't just use drugs. We combine advanced biological therapies for this tune-up:
Intravenous solutions containing high doses of vitamin C, toxin-flushing solutions, specific chelation solutions tailored to the heavy metals to be removed, alkalizing IV drips, multimineral and vitamin replacement IV drips, various applications of oxidative therapies , molecular hyperthermia, neurovegetative injection therapy, microimmunotherapy, neural therapy, perineural injection therapy, whole-body hyperthermia, pulsed magnetic fields, etc.
Since late 2021 , we have introduced a new therapy —INUSpheresis® therapeutic apheresis —which we are the only ones offering in all of Spain .
We perform these procedures in four days and in a much more effective manner, immediately eliminating the following from the patient's body, among others:
In all cases of chronic Lyme disease, we recommend starting treatment with a 2-, 3-, or 4-week intensive treatment regimen consisting of intravenous infusions containing antibiotics, detoxifying agents, and specific immune system stimulants. At Biosalud, we have developed an innovative method for administering antibiotics that eliminates their side effects. In addition, we can implement specific protocols using techniques such as ozone therapy (major autohemotherapy, multi-pass therapy, and intestinal insufflations), focal magnetotherapy, colon hydrotherapy, oxygen therapy, specific and personalized intravenous infusions with high doses of vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, enzymes, and/or amino acids, molecular hyperthermia, whole-body hyperthermia, diathermy, phytotherapy, and neurovegetative injection therapy, among others.
In the second week of this intensive treatment, oral antibiotic therapy begins, as indicated by the test results Lymecheck and the co-infections present in each case. We always use antibiotics in a pharmaceutical form that has no side effects and is far more effective than standard pharmaceutical forms.
Our patients typically complete this phase in better condition than when they began, often experiencing significant relief from their symptoms, which gives them hope that they have a good chance of overcoming the multi-infection and returning to a normal life with a good quality of life in due course.
Following these weeks of intensive treatment, a comprehensive at-home regimen is implemented, including antibiotics, immune stimulants, neurotoxin-clearing agents, natural anti-infectives, etc. The objectives of this phase are: to improve the compatibility and effectiveness of the antibiotics, to strengthen the immune system, to treat existing pain, altering the cellular environment by deacidifying it and eliminating excess free radicals to reduce Borrelia reproduction, reducing cytokine-mediated inflammation and regulating the Th1/Th2 and Th17 systems, supporting the proper functioning of various organs (especially the liver and kidneys), detoxification, and improving the immune system.
This phase is also accompanied by treatment at our facility tailored to each individual case, typically on a weekly, biweekly, or—more commonly—monthly basis, depending on the specific circumstances and theresults of the follow-up laboratory tests conducted every two months to monitor progress and assess the treatment’s effectiveness.
Two months after starting the intensive Lyme treatment, we perform laboratory tests to assess the patient's response to treatment (Lymecheck® and Nagalasa test®) and, following a clinical evaluation, discuss the next steps and how to proceed with the treatment
In chronic Lyme disease, antibiotics (AB) in their conventional pharmaceutical form often fail on their own because the bacteria are protected within biofilms, inside cells, or in cysts; they do not penetrate the cells or cross the blood-brain barrier (which is filled with spirochetes). Furthermore, the high doses required often harm the patient’s body and produce side effects that, in addition to being bothersome, necessitate discontinuation of the AB.
At Biosalud Day Hospital, we apply the Precision Integrative Medicine approach, which combines the best of both worlds:
The Result: We maximize lethality against Borrelia and co-infections while eliminating the usual side effects (damage to intestinal flora, liver and kidney toxicity, dizziness and/or nausea, tinnitus).
Forget about generic pills that harm your digestive system. At Biosalud, we use optimized pharmaceutical formulas and advanced delivery methods (such as intravenous therapy) combined with whole-body hyperthermia, which guarantee:
Customized protocols (no "one size fits all")
We do not apply a standard formula. The duration, combination of drugs, and cycles (pulse therapy) are decided by our medical team based on:
80% of Lyme disease diagnoses are inaccurate because they rely on standard serological tests (ELISA) that detect antibodies that a chronic patient with an immune deficiency does not produce. At Biosalud Day Hospital, we don’t just look for your body’s reaction; we look for the direct evidence of the infection.
Our exclusive test, optimized by Biosalud Análisis, goes far beyond a simple positive or negative result. It is a comprehensive diagnostic panel designed to avoid false negatives and determine what is actually going on.
Depending on the complexity of the case, we use advanced versions such as LymeCheck Artificial Intelligence, Lymecheck iSpot, which allow us to:
Lyme disease is a systemic illness: it affects the entire body. To design your treatment, it’s not enough for us to know “what kind of bacteria you have”; we need to know “what damage they’ve caused” in your body and why your immune system isn’t functioning properly.
To do this, we perform a comprehensive biological check during the extraction itself:
If your body is full of toxins, it can't fight back, and germs have a field day. We identify the blockages that are hindering your healing:
Time is against you with Lyme disease. Early detection is vital because, in the first few weeks, the bacteria are still vulnerable. However, we know that the reality is quite different: most patients come to us months or years after the bite, when the disease has already become chronic and the immune system is depleted (immunosuppression).
If this is your case, don't blame yourself. Borrelia is a master of biological camouflage.
In the international medical community , we call Lyme disease the "great imitator." Why? Because the bacteria sometimes causes your immune system to attack your tissues (autoimmunity) or generates systemic inflammation that can be confused with other diseases.
Many of our patients come to Biosalud with diagnoses of incurable diseases that, in reality, have a treatable infectious basis:
The most common diagnosis that masks Lyme disease is fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. If you have pain and fatigue, but your tests come back "normal," suspect Lyme disease.
If you have one of these diagnoses, are taking medication, but your symptoms are not improving or continue to progress, it is necessary to rule out Lyme disease. Treating a bacterial infection with corticosteroids (immunosuppressants) thinking that it is an autoimmune disease when it is infectious can drastically worsen the condition.
Lyme disease is often confused with multiple sclerosis, ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), or early-stage Parkinson's disease. Research is also being conducted into its link to autism and ADHD. Lyme disease may even be the cause of these conditions.
Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, ulcerative colitis, or Crohn's disease.
Conventional testing (such as ELISA) typically looks for antibodies that the body may not produce if the immune system is compromised. At Biosalud, we use LymeCheck®, a much more sensitive technique that analyzes the cellular response and detects the bacteria even in chronic stages or when it is hidden in the tissues.
Chronic Lyme disease occurs when Borrelia bacteria persist in the body after initial antibiotic treatment or due to inadequate treatment, taking refuge in hard-to-reach areas such as the nervous system. Furthermore, it is often accompanied by co-infections and a high toxin load, which requires an integrative approach rather than relying solely on medication.
INUSpheresis® is essential for cleansing the blood plasma and tissues of bacterial toxins (neurotoxins), heavy metals, toxic chemicals, and inflammatory complexes produced by bacteria. By cleansing the “biological environment,” we enable the immune system and specific treatments to work much more effectively.
Yes, this is what we refer to as a healing crisis or Herxheimer reaction. It occurs when bacteria die off in large numbers and release toxins. In our protocol, we prepare the body in advance to minimize these symptoms and ensure a safe detoxification process. In nearly 20 years, we have not had a single case of a Herxheimer reaction among our patients undergoing treatment.
Conventional medicine typically limits itself to a short course of antibiotics. Our method is a 6-phase protocol (Preparation, Treatment, Toxin Elimination, and Recovery) that addresses not only the bacteria but also co-infections, the immune system, and the resulting organ damage.
