Cancer is less likely to lead to Alzheimer's or the other way around

Cancer and Alzheimer's are incompatible diseases

Cancer and Alzheimer's are two diseases that do not develop simultaneously in the same patient.according to an Italian study published in the journal Neurology, since both diseases are due to the deterioration of our organism.

After following 200,000 patients over the age of 60 for five years, only 161 of these patients had both diseases. Patients with Alzheimer's disease were 42 % less likely to develop cancer. Those with cancer had a 35% lower chance of developing Alzheimer's disease.

According to study doctor Dr. Massimo Musicco, if the balance is tipped towards uncontrolled cell growth, cancer will develop; if, on the other hand, it is tipped towards cell death, Alzheimer's will result.
