What happens to us when we are in front of the computer?

Man with a computer

Headaches or backaches due to office hours

Today the computer is one of our most used tools to facilitate our day-to-day tasks, both at work, as well as for fun, information, training and a long etc...

Occasional use does not pose any risk, but when it becomes prolonged, it can cause multiple problems. such as headaches, eye problems, nausea, dizziness, carpal tunnel, tendonitis, epicondylitis, tenosynovitis, back pain and pathologiesetc. And it is on the latter that we are going to focus our article; although it also serves for the various pathologies already mentioned.

The most common problems that we are going to find, due to this excessive use, is in the spine, in its entire length, lumbar, dorsal and cervical and here we will talk about the 3 most important factors to bear in mind when sitting in front of a computerbut not the only ones

First of all, we should briefly comment that our spine is made up of bones called vertebrae and between them there are discs that facilitate and cushion the movements of the vertebrae. vertebral movements.

  1. The first factor is the sitting positionThis is the posture that most forces our spine and therefore our vertebrae suffer a lot when we spend long periods sitting, and if we do not have a proper postural hygiene this increases the risk that the discs break, crack, deform or even herniate, causing a lot of pain and irreversible repercussions.
  2. Another factor to be taken into account is that such a position encourages us to adopt incorrect postures, that strain the back by increasing the pressure on the discs.
  3.  And as a final factor, it is the lack of physical activity; Musculature is a very important pillar for the maintenance of our spine and to avoid future injuries. That is why this inactivity means that the muscles of the spine and abdominals are unable to respond adequately to the efforts we ask of our back on a daily basis.

In our clinic, the area of physiotherapy treats this type of problems both from prevention, with postural hygiene, muscle strengthening..., as well as treating any problems already acquired.

  1. Very true, it's very easy to pick up bad habits and then it takes its toll on your back. I've been annoyed by these things for a long time.
