Lyme disease, the threat of a global epidemic

If left undiagnosed and untreated, Lyme disease and its co-infections can be exceptionally serious. Both specialists and scientific evidence show that these diseases become persistent as the organisms - the bacterial borrelia in the case of Lyme - are resistant to antibiotics and the immune system. This means they will not only survive, but thrive.

In addition, rising global temperatures are creating the ideal environment for these bacteria and parasites to thrive and spread over longer periods of time. As a result, the risk of a global epidemic is growing.

The main challenge is the correct diagnosis of the disease. Currently, there is often inadequate testing and a high incidence of false negatives in the results of blood tests performed. For the Global LymeXpert Group, it is a priority to continue researching testing methods to find better solutions to diagnose and treat patients quickly and correctly.

The objectives of the Global LymeXpert Group are:

  • Increase the awareness and recognition of Lyme diseaseThe disease, its co-infections and symptoms among physicians around the world.
  • Pooling the talents and resources of cliniciansThe aim is to raise public awareness and create accessible treatment for people living with Lyme disease by bringing together therapists, professionals and charities from around the world.
  • Supporting research about the causes, symptoms and treatment options to prevent new tick bites from developing into chronic Lyme disease.
  • Accelerating access to treatment of lyme and support for patients diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease in order to give them the best possible chance of recovery.
  • Setting the gold standard in scientific parameters for the diagnosis and effective treatment of patients with all stages of Lyme.

For several years we have worked closely and successfully with experts in Europe and North America.

"Together we have come a long way in the treatment of this disease and the collaboration is accelerating our ability to conduct research and improve diagnostics, treatments and therapies. Together, we are undoubtedly stronger and by forming the Global LymeXpert Group and inviting our counterparts around the world to join our partnership, we aim to find accurate diagnostic tools and successful treatment protocols more quickly.
