A healthy diet helps psoriasis

Healthy diet foods

Psoriasis is an ailment that affects 2% of the population, but a study published in the journal JAMA has shown that can be improved by something as simple as following a low-calorie diet when associated with overweight patients.

A healthy diet helps psoriasis

The association of psoriasis with obesity and increased fat in various parts of the body has been demonstrated in research. Weight loss may also affect the progression of psoriasis as several people who underwent weight loss surgery have improved their psoriasis, but this has not been scientifically proven.

It's a breakthrough but not yet definitive, says Peter Jensen, leader of the current study, conducted at Gentofte University Hospital in Denmark. There are not yet many results on the improvement of the symptoms of the disease itself," he suggests of an ailment that causes red patches and flaking of the skin.

The project involved 60 overweight psoriasis patients divided into two groups. The first group was put on a low-calorie diet and the improvement in the patients who had followed this treatment was verified. Specifically, the average weight loss in the patients on the diet was 15.8 kilos compared to 0.4 kilos in the patients who did not follow the diet.
