What is Vaginal Candidiasis?

The Vaginal candidiasis is a common infection caused by an overgrowth of candida fungus located in the vulvovaginal area. This fungus is present in the body in small quantities, however, when a imbalance, such as changes in the normal acidity of the vagina, in the microbiota or changes in hormonal balance, Candida tends to multiply. and at that moment the first symptoms of Candidiasis appear. It is not a serious disease, but rather it can be considered annoying due to the itching it generates.

Yeast candida albicans is normally found in small amounts in different parts of the body, such as the vagina, mouth, digestive tract and skin. It is normally harmless and does not cause any symptoms. A bacterium known as lactobacillus acidophilus which is present in large quantities in the vagina, maintains control over this yeast and other organisms. When the balance of these micro-organisms is disrupted for any reason, it can cause yeast to grow and cause irritation.
