Early symptoms of Lyme disease
The early symptoms of Lyme disease are tremendously varied. In fact, it is called "the great mimic" because of its great ability to hide the true cause among other possible causes. It has symptoms that mimic everything from rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia and even Alzheimer's disease. These symptoms can include insomnia, joint pain, fatigue or mental confusion, as well as fever, headaches and neck stiffness.
The first, and most characteristic, symptom of Lyme disease is the skin rashes around the infected areas. These symptoms may appear 7 to 14 days after the bite. This is a symptom that occurs in 70 percent of cases of Lyme infection, but need not be conclusive. This rash, called erythema migrans shows a variable appearance, the most common in the uniformly coloured oval lesion. It can also present as a bull's eye (in 20 per cent of cases). Sometimes the rash is the only early symptom of the disease. It should also be noted that:
- This rash can last from a few hours to several weeks.
- The size of the affected area varies from case to case.
- The appearance and disappearance of this rash may occur at intervals.
- It can be diagnosed at first as a dermatological problem and other symptoms independent of Lyme: Urticaria, Eczema, Burns, Insect bites, Allergies, Intense itching, Heat in the affected area.

Diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease
Biosalud has years of experience in the treatment of Lyme disease with innovative scientific techniques whose sole mission is to improve the quality of life of its patients. We are the centre of reference in Europe for the diagnosis and treatment of treatment of Lyme disease.
Lyme disease is most often treated with the antibiotic use oralssuch as doxycycline or amoxicillin. Some patients may require the use of intravenous antibiotics, such as penicillin or ceftrioxone. However, between 10 and 20% of patients receiving antibiotic treatment will have recurrent symptoms and are diagnosed with Lyme disease syndrome after treatment.
To treat Lyme, the first thing to say is that antibiotics are not usually the ideal solution for Lyme borrelia burgdorferi, we can find cases where the optimal approach is to combine the antibiotic with biological medicine treatments and others, in which we only use natural anti-infective treatments. It all depends on each case, on the analytical controls, on the evolution of the patient. No two cases are the same.
What Biosalud integrative medicine brings as a difference is that our treatment is designed for each patientWe will focus on the infections or co-infections that accompany Lyme infection: Coxsackie, babesia, and various parasites and germs.
The first step in knowing which type of treatment is the most appropriate is obvious: detect lyme disease. At Biosalud Day Hospital we have a unique and effective analysis, created after years of research: Lyme disease test - Lymecheck.
We hope that we have helped you to understand what are the main symptoms of Lyme caused by infection with borrelia burgdorferi bacteria. Contact Biosalud if you need more information about tick-borne disease.
