Cold sores could be explained by a genetic mutation

Cold sores

Cold soresHerpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1), those painful blisters that often appear around the lips, are caused by the herpes simplex virus, could be explained by a genetic mutation.

Cold sores could be explained by a genetic mutation

Research in Scotland tested the blood of people with cold sores and found that they have a mutation in a gene called IL28b. The mutation means that the body cannot mount an appropriate immune response to HSV-1.

"Knowing that susceptibility to the virus involved has to do with people's genes reinforces the need to investigate not only the evolution of the viruses themselves, but also the susceptibility of hosts to infection," said Professor Juergen Haas, who was involved in the study, published in the journal PLoS Pathogens.

Immunogenetic biomedicine in Biosalud

At Biosalud, we treat diseases from their genetic origin; immunogenetic biomedicine has no side effects or contraindications and is fully compatible with any treatment prescribed to the patient.

Immunogenetic Medicine is one of the most important scientific advances of the 21st century and Biosalud is a pioneer in both its preventive and therapeutic aspects.

Thanks to this, we can treating chronic infections by bacteria, viruses or fungi, such as a cold sore caused by the above-mentioned virus.
