Spanish and American scientists succeed in monitoring the disassembly of a virus

Virus

The Autonomous University of Madrid, the National Centre for Biotechnology and Princeton University in the USA have joined forces to make the first real-time monitoring of the disassembly of individual viruses.

Disassembling a virus

This research has been published in the journal Scientific Reports and has uncovered the non-condensed genome as the component that gives mature adenoviruses the ability to infect.

To achieve the success of this study, the scientists have been observing the changes a virus underwent in its maturation process They have used an atomic force microscope for this purpose.

This microscope makes it possible to perform mechanical fatigue of viruses, which will enable the objective of this study: the progressive disassembly of individual virus particles in real time.

According to this study, adenovirus vertex proteins are more fragile than the rest of the viral capsid and are more unstable in mature particles than in immature ones.

Biosalud, at the forefront of genomic medicine

The importance of DNA is an issue that is very clear to us at Biosalud. That is why we have developed an analysis called foodGen, which is among the latest in genomic medicine.

Given the importance that we at Biosalud give to the medicine that studies genesWe have set up a unit that looks at disease prediction from a scientific perspective. In this way, we enable our patients and other doctors to benefit from our individually tailored prevention methods. One of the tools to achieve this is FoodGen.

FoodGen is an analysis of 20 genes that will determine how each person should eat according to their genetics. This test is performed with a saliva sample that can be collected by the patient at home with the required kit for the collection of cells from the oral cavity, and after analysing the sample, we will send the patient a comprehensive report with guidelines on their diet.
